A retro icon with a professional soul
The Ascaso Dream PID pairs an iconic retro silhouette designed in Barcelona with components usually reserved for larger machines. It suits the home enthusiast who wants café quality espresso without sacrificing style.
What sets it apart
Its PID controller manages coffee and steam temperatures separately (80°C to 110°C in 1°C increments for coffee, 110°C to 165°C for steam), delivering thermal stability of ±1.5°C. Adjustable pre-infusion and an externally adjustable overpressure valve (OPV) let you fine tune extraction for different beans and grinds, a level of control rarely found in such a compact machine.
Key specifications
- Insulated Ø60mm thermoblock group with a 58mm portafilter: direct compatibility with standard professional baskets and accessories.
- Illuminated, removable 1.3L water tank: enough capacity for several consecutive extractions without plumbing the machine in.
- Vibratory pump rated at 20 bars with an external OPV: extraction pressure can be calibrated precisely for your coffee.
- Volumetric control and a built-in timer: consistent doses, shot after shot, without manually timing each pull.
- 360° stainless steel steam wand, heat resistant: easy to wipe clean even after a busy morning.
- 1050W power draw (120V): quick heat up despite the compact footprint.
Living with it day to day
The active cup warmer keeps your cups at the right temperature while the machine heats. Wooden handles add a crafted touch to a machine built for simple daily use: fill the tank, dial in your grind, and let the PID display handle the rest.
Who it's for and who it's not for
- Best for: someone brewing 2 to 6 espressos a day at home who wants precise control (temperature, pre-infusion, pressure) without the complexity of a dual boiler.
- Best for: anyone who wants a design piece, available in several vivid colors, that looks good on a countertop.
- Less suited for: households that regularly pull multiple lattes back to back (see our ECM or Rancilio dual boiler machines, which brew and steam at the same time).
- Less suited for: anyone looking for one touch coffee with no grinding or tamping (see our De'Longhi or KitchenAid automatic machines).
Where it sits in the lineup
Among single boiler, prosumer style manual machines, the Dream PID stands out for its separate coffee and steam temperature control and externally adjustable OPV, features rarely found at this size.
